Yes We Can

GEO ExPro has now, thanks to an overwhelming response from readers and advertisers, been published for five years. We started in 2004, and since then we have (including this edition) produced 25 magazines with feature articles, interviews and news from all over the world.

The first five years have clearly shown that there is a need for a "coffee-table" magazine that does not primarily have a scientific objective. Instead of producing articles that are difficult to access, we are aiming at making knowledge and technology within the petroleum geosciences available in a easy-to-read format, without compromising on the scientific content.

Stories include topics like "geoscience explained", technology explained", "recent advances in technology", "history of oil" and "geotourism", to mention a few. We are doing our best to bring disciplines like geology, geophysics and reservoir engineering a bit closer to each other by using a simple language with few technical terms. In this way, we hope to be, not an alternative, but a supplement to technical and scientific journals.

GEO ExPro has in this way carved a small niche in a market dominated by various magazines published by geological and geophysical organisations serving individuals in the petroleum industry (e.g. EAGE, SEG, AAPG).

We are also competing in a market consisting of several trade journals that have a broader scope than just geoscience. Our readers, however, benefit from a magazine in which the content focuses on the subsurface and relevant outcrops.

Our scope is to bring together petroleum geoscientists and petroleum engineers within oil companies as well as service companies, and to offer a journal that demonstrate that we all belong to the same crowd. We are, in all modesty, in the business of sharing knowledge and technology to understand the subsurface for the purpose of finding and producing more oil and gas.
